1. What is IFBB Semi PRO?

It is essential to clarify that IFBB Semi PRO competitions are amateur events, but with professional management. They are organized directly by IFBB PRO Official as a direct pathway for athletes aspiring to reach the professional ranks.

2. Difference from Conventional IFBB Amateur

Unlike the usual international amateur competitions organized by the IFBB, the Semi PRO circuit strictly follows IFBB PRO rules and regulations. This means that from the moment you step into the weigh-in, you are immersed in professional competitive dynamics.

3. The Licensing System

To compete in the Semi PRO circuit, you need a specific annual license. It is important to know:

  • The international amateur license known as the "blue book" that you use to compete in IFBB international amateur championships, is not valid for Semi PRO.
  • You must obtain a Semi PRO license (brown book), which can be paid for at the athlete registration of any Semi PRO championship in the circuit.
  • It is mandatory to notify your national federation before competing.

4. Which to choose? IFBB Amateur or IFBB Semi PRO Amateur?

This is a very personal decision that depends on your circumstances, goals, and characteristics as an athlete. The main difference, as previously mentioned, is that Semi PRO events are organized by IFBB PRO, with all the sporting and administrative implications that entails.

  • PRO Cards: You can win them in both IFBB and IFBB Semi PRO.
  • Federation: In both cases, you must notify your national federation of your participation.
  • Management: You must register and pay the corresponding fees on the respective website (IFBB or IFBB PRO Official).
  • Sporting Level: The rules and format follow the supervising entity; in Semi PRO, you will be judged exclusively by panels composed only of Professional judges.

With all this information, you must decide which structure best suits your needs. There is no right or wrong decision—only what best fits you and your way of viewing competition.

5. Structure and Categories (March 2026 Document)

Competition rules strictly follow the IFBB PRO structure and norms in their entirety. This includes evaluation by judging panels composed exclusively of IFBB PRO judges.

Masculine Semi PRO Categories:

  • Bodybuilding (Senior, Junior, and Master)
  • Classic Physique (Senior, Junior, and Master)
  • Men’s Physique (Senior, Junior, and Master)
  • Muscular Men’s Physique (Senior division only)
  • Classic Bodybuilding (Senior, Junior, and Master)

Feminine Semi PRO Categories:

  • Women’s Bodyfitness (Senior, Junior, and Master)
  • Women’s Bikini (Senior, Junior, and Master)
  • Women’s Wellness (Senior, Junior, and Master)
  • Women’s Physique (Senior and Master)
  • Women’s Fit Model (Senior, Junior, and Master)

6. FAQ: Common Athlete Questions

If I win my PRO card at a Semi PRO event, does that make me an IFBB PRO athlete?

Not automatically. Winning a professional card grants you the RIGHT to apply for your PRO license. The number of available cards is always specified in the event's Inspection Report or Main Information. Once you earn this right, you have one year to decide whether to turn pro.

Is posing judged the same as in the amateur circuit?

Posing follows strict professional rules. You will be evaluated by judges who are used to seeing the best athletes in the world. Your stage presence will be judged through the eyes of judges accustomed to elite excellence, where every technical detail and transition matters more than ever.
